Lectures

I am available to give lectures to guilds and art quilt groups. My current offerings are listed below. Lectures are virtual (via zoom), and last for ~50 mintes, with time afterwards for questions. For local groups, arrangements can be made for an in-person presentation. For more information about scheduling one of these lectures, please reach out to me at la.emperatriz@gmail.com.

Going 3D: Adding a New Dimension to Your Art Quilts

This lecture focuses on how I incorporate a variety of techniques to make 3D art quilts and 3D fiber sculptures. I include suggestions and tips that I have learned over the years that may be helpful for those interested in exploring 3D fiber art. The lecture includes a resource handout. To see more examples of my 3D work, click here.

Science in Art Quilting: The Intersection of Experimentation and Creativity

In my non-quilting life, I am a faculty member in the Department of Cell Biology at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. This lecture focuses on how my experience as a biomedical research scientist has informed my art quilt practice and vice-versa. I share both my artwork and that of others in the broader STEAM field and include some ideas that I hope will inspire more experimentation among listeners.
